An Italian stand to present authors and illustrators at the Doha Book Fair

The Italian Embassy in Doha will participate in the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) at the DECC from 13 to 22 January with a national stand dedicated to children’s books hosting an exhibition of works by Italian authors and illustrators as well as readings and workshops.
The Italian pavilion, one of the largest in the DIBF, is organized and managed in cooperation with “Reggio Children”, a leading Italian organization in early childhood education and the promotion of children’s rights.
Subject to the latest regulations of the health authorities, the main objective of the Italian stand is to introduce children to reading by offering them a space for active exploration and learning through Italian books, illustrations and workshops. Particular attention will be devoted to the introduction of new methods, books and tools for educators. The stand will present and sell a selection of children’s books published by Italian publishing houses or Italian authors. Furthermore, the agenda should include different free activities during the fair, including the “Mosaic of brands, words, materials” workshop and readings of books written by Italians in English, Arabic and Italian.
One of the highlights of the program will be the official presentation of the Arabic translation of two books by the Italian writer Gianni Rodari, winner in 1970 of the Hans Christian Andersen Prize – Nobel Prize for Children’s Literature, “La torta in cielo” ( The Cake in the Sky) and “Fiabe lunghe un sorriso” (Fairy Tales Long a Smile). The joint project of the Embassy of Italy and the Ministry of Culture of Qatar will be presented on January 17 at 10:30 am in the conference room of the fair.
Those interested in Rodari’s work can visit the exhibition “Illustrations for Gianni Rodari”, a selection of images by 21 Italian artists produced by “Bologna Children’s Book Fair” and presented for the first time in Qatar in the Italian pavilion.
“We are particularly proud of our pavilion at the Doha International Book Fair,” said Ambassador HE Alessandro Prunas.
“This year will be the first edition with Italian institutional participation and we have chosen to bet on the younger generations. Indeed, both Italy and Qatar place great importance on education and the promotion of children’s potential and rights and I believe that our intense program during the fair fits perfectly into our common policies and ambitions towards the ‘childhood.”
