“My aspiration from the jump has been to create comics through the prism of contemporary culture. And send it back to readers through relevant, relatable stories filled with references to their favorite music, movies, and memes,” said Ian Grody, co-creator and writer of The lesser evils. “Brooklyn was the perfect backdrop because it’s not just a cultural center, it’s a place of becoming. Where people will actively transform and reinvent themselves. Any place where there’s so much hope, of despair and frustration is already full of magic. No better place for our strange and strangely familiar stories.”

Justin Fair, co-creator and director/producer of The lesser evilsadded, “As founding rocker and voice of a generation, Gavin Rossdale (Bush, Institute), sang, ‘It’s the little things that kill.’ The lesser evils are the least obvious, often self-inflicted and most insidious evils that threaten our well-being. These are the pitfalls we all must avoid and the obstacles we all must cross within ourselves to succeed in our place in our social circles, in our neighborhoods and in the world. Our hope is that through drama, humor, thrills and chills, The lesser evils is a guided tour for the reader through some of Brooklyn’s lesser-known exotic microcosms and the frighteningly familiar exotic microcosms of themselves.”

“It’s a bit scary, a bit funny, but it’s more of a mystery, a kind of everyday life thing,” said Yishan Liartist of The lesser evils. “It’s definitely something I like to draw.”

“Working with this team to create an entirely original comic book universe with multiple intricate layers has been an incredible experience,” said Will Graves, Managing Editor at AWA Studios. “We first met Ian and Justin at AWA’s session on Intersecting Graphic Fiction with Film and TV at Tribeca 2021. We knew they had a creative style that synced perfectly with the modern storytelling capable of inspiring a new generation of readers. The lesser evils The universe is an imaginative vision of real life. It perfectly mixes pop culture, a bit of horror, and relatable characters that give you a view of Brooklyn behind a supernatural veil. The fact that a year later, this connection has led to the collaboration and the creation of four new series and a short film is a wonderful moment of closure. »
