CHELSEA player Fikayo Tomori has revealed he speaks to AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini before and in every game.

The 23-year-old center-back swapped Stamford Bridge for San Siro in January to gain more playing time after being overlooked by former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.

Tomori had previously revealed that he felt his ax by club legend Lampard was ‘personal’, but he took the lead in Serie A and could make the move permanent with a call option worth $ 25million of pounds sterling agreed between the parties.

And Tomori has lifted the veil on the extent of the dialogue he has with Milan icon and technical director Maldini, 52, after the Italian revealed he has been following the defender since last summer.

Tomori said The temperature: “If I had been loaned somewhere during the summer, I wouldn’t be here.

“Now I have the chance to play for AC Milan, to play in Serie A, to learn something new and to have tastes like [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, [Mario] Mandzukic and Paolo Maldini, to learn from.

“You feel her [Maldini’s] presence.

“As much as I play for myself and for the team and the manager, I want to impress him.

“It’s like you’re a striker and one day Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi is your sporting director and said those words for you. It’s crazy.

“Before every game he talks and says go and says well done afterwards. If I haven’t played well he is always there to say well done.”

Tomori has made ten appearances for Milan, including a 1-1 draw in the Europa League round of 16 first leg against Manchester United last week.

He received applause for an incredible performance against Roma where a last resort tackle saved his team.

Maldini had previously hinted that he wanted to make Tomori’s stay permanent after being impressed with his pace – but at a price lower than the “expensive” price agreed in advance.

At the beginning of the month, he confided to Sky Sport Italia: “As for Fikayo, he has unique advantages of speed and intensity, for us he was a possible reinforcement for the rest of the season.

“There is a very high purchase price, we will assess whether to exercise it or not.”
