‘Huge’ – QPR boss hails dramatic winner from loaned Hull City defender

Jordy de Wijs scored what his manager described as a “huge” late winner in his third appearance for QPR to seal a formidable comeback against London rivals Millwall.

The Dutch defender, on loan from City of Hull, rose to meet Ilias Chair’s corner four minutes from time to cap a 3-2 win over Gary Rowett’s Lions at Loftus Road, after trailing 2-0 in the first half.

Since his move in January from the KCOM stadium, de Wijs has struggled with injuries, only making his debut in the 2-0 win at Bristol City earlier this month, though all three appearances resulted in wins for Mark Warburton’s Rs.

“We got to 2-1, then 2-2 and were really in the ascendancy, and we looked dangerous and it was a fantastic header from Jordy for the winner, a great header,” said boss Warburton.

“We were a lot better in the second half, a lot more dangerous, on the front foot, winning heads and challenges, and that’s what you have to do.”

“We’ve had a good race lately.

“We let ourselves down against Derby, Birmingham and Huddersfield, but we had very good results against tough teams.

“We have to recognize that our day we are very good. “

De Wijs’ move to the capital is initially planned until the end of the current campaign, although Rangers have the option of making it permanent.
