But some casting decisions and rumors surrounding the changes to her Inhuman Origin Story have left many fans worried. While Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has said he is focused on bringing more diversity to the world’s biggest franchise, there have certainly been some missteps.

At first glance, the image represents a cartoon accurate superhero costume which even included his classic domino mask despite the absence of his trademark blue boots. But fans weren’t focused on her gorgeous costume but on the weird purple energy around her hand. For those who have read the Ms. Marvel comic book by writer G. Willow Wilson, it was a clear departure from the powers of the main character.

What are the comic powers of Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel?
Kamala Khan is traditionally an Inhuman who has acquired transfiguration or metamorphosis abilities through his exposure to the Terrigen Mist. Specifically, Kamala Khan’s power of metamorphosis is called morphogenetic and it works a little differently from the traditional metamorphosis. She can lengthen her body, change her appearance, and even use bright yellow, also known as bioluminescence.
She mainly uses her ability to change her height with her slogan “embiggenWhich became so popular that it was officially added to the dictionary in 2018. Her power of embiggen works as she shares her mass through time with different versions of herself. When she shrinks at one point, she sends her mass at another point allowing her to grow taller. Ms. Marvel is essentially time-traveling at the molecular level. Wonder what the Time Variance Authority (TVA) has to say about this?

What will Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel’s MCU powers be?
While the change depicted in concept art seems small, it does reflect a dramatic shift in Ms. Marvel’s powers. She can transform her body into any shape she desires. It can become as thin as a sheet of paper or dress up as an abandoned sofa. But she never used her shapeshifting power to create purple energy or crystalline constructs on her body.
There had been rumors throughout the production, which closed filming in Thailand in May despite COVID, that a change in his powers in the MCU. Many thought that would simply mean erasing its inhuman ties, as Marvel Studios now has the rights to the X-Men and the Mutants. However, last month showing hashtag reported that she would get her powers from magic bracelets, much like Shang Chi (Simu Liu) in the upcoming Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings (September 3, 2021).
The idea is that Kamala will use his bracelet, which in the comics was a inheritance from her grandmother, to create magical constructions around her body instead of changing shape. The shiny builds will look more like Monica’s specter powers and Carol’s “glittering fists“.
And combined with other controversies over the December casting, the hashtag #fixmsmarvel was born.

Why is the change of Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel’s powers controversial?
The biggest controversy isn’t that they kidnap the story of inhuman origin. The Inhumans aren’t the most popular Marvel Comics team and Kamala Khan has little interaction with them, so fans aren’t heartbroken that she’s getting a makeover. Many are crazy to add a magical origin to his powers.
Twitter user Nuha Angel Day explained exactly why this magic is so problematic, saying:
#fixmsmarvel the fact that they chose a half arab half white christian to play a turkish muslim and not pitch properly just in general and ruin it for us muslims + make kamala use magic when it is literally haram in our religion so i have the right to be upset

As Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan will be the MCU’s first Muslim superhero, this seems like a massive oversight in his new origin. Additionally, fans speculated that they changed her powers to make her look more like Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) for her next team with them in the Captain Marvel (2019) continued Wonders (November 11, 2022). And many believe that she will also become a young avenger.
It seems like a slap in the face from Kamala Khan’s first story arc, which involved her learning not to rely on her form-shifting ability to impersonate Captain Marvel and become a hero on her own terms with her. own identity. It’s a central part of her character to be distinct from the other Marvels, so changing her powers to be more like them also irritates fans.

Additionally, Marvel fans have identified a possible motivation for this change. Reed Richards AKA Mr. Fantastic’s stretch ability is very similar to how Ms. Marvel uses her Transfiguration ability.
Twitter user Keanu Comics explained how disappointed they were that Marvel Studios was removing the power from a young woman of color so that a typically white man could stand out more by saying:
I’m so disappointed in the direction they’re taking Ms. Marvel: / As someone who loves her comics it really sucks that they seem to want to change her powers completely (especially if it’s just to differentiate her from Mr. .Fan-tas-tic)

What other controversies are happening Ms. Marvel?
Adding to the scandal, fans are also outraged by the overrepresentation of military imagery, which has never been associated with the teenage superhero. Not to mention the issues with the casting process. They created a page to keep track of all their problems.
Some fans are reporting issues including molding Zenobia Shroff (The big sick) as the mother of Kamala Khan, Muneeba Khan. Zenobia Shroff is a non-Muslim Indian actress. As well, Yasmine Fletcher (Magic upside down), a half-Caucasian Christian actress, was chosen to be Kamala’s friend, Nakia Bahadir (a Turkish Muslim who wears a hijab). Since there are so few roles for Hijabi actresses, choosing two non-Hijabi women in those roles is tantamount to culture as costume, a problematic form of cultural appropriation.
Knight Aramis (In the Badlands) who will play Red Dagger Kareem AKA received a bit of hindsight for being white-passer. It wouldn’t be the first time Disney has received criticism for this form of laundering since they recently had to reissue. The bad batch of Star Wars to correct the skin tones of the characters. As well, Matt Lintz, who will play his Italian best friend Bruno Carelli, caused his own reaction after tweeting support for Donald Trump. Although he later returned to his political position.

This is far from the first time that a comic book character’s origin and powers have been altered for the MCU. Sam Wilson AKA Falcon, our new Captain America (Anthony Mackie) can talk to birds and fly in the comics. But this is certainly the first time that it seems to have been done in contrast to some of the central aspects of the character.
Regardless of the issues surrounding Ms. Marvel, it’s not expected to hit Disney + until early 2022. It was originally announced as part of the 2021 lineup but with the upcoming live-action series coming out. Hawk Eye was confirmed on November 24, 2021, it is clear that the series has been delayed. Bisha K. Ali was hired to serve as editor after working as an editor on the Loki series.
