Two Brothers serves a taste of Italy in Dunmore | Food and wine

Family and customers have been the key to the success of Two Brothers Restaurant and Pizzeria for the past 20+ years.

Marty Coar Jr. runs Dunmore Restaurant, which opened in 1998 and specializes in Italian cuisine, with his father, Marty Sr.; mother, Tina; and his sister, Kellie. The Coars treat their customers as they would family members who come to their house for dinner, said Marty Jr.

Chef’s Table recently chatted with him about the family business at 215 E. Drinker St.

Question: What is the history of the restaurant?

A: We were customers of the restaurant when it was Padula’s Pizza. Marty Sr. (my father) bought the restaurant with his brother in 1998, giving it the name Two Brothers. Soon after, Marty bought out his brother and became the sole owner. It’s a family affair.

Question: What type of food do you serve and what is available for people on special diets?

A: We will respond to requests as best we can. We have a lot of vegetarian options. We can adapt our recipes to certain dietary restrictions as almost all of our items are made to order. Some people don’t like garlic or extra garlic or want to make it spicy. By coming to eat, we meet people’s needs. We can cook the extra soft pasta just like you would a family member at home. We treat our customers like family. All of our dishes are homemade.

Question: How was your menu born?

A. When we bought the restaurant, they only had pizzas, wings and a few hoagies. Our dinners are all the dinners we have had while raising our family. We continued to create new items and put them on the menu.

Question: What are your most ordered menu items and why?

A: For dinners, I would say Chicken or Veal Parmesan. We use fresh chops and bread them ourselves when ordering. Our pasta sauce is the recipe we had every Sunday before we became restaurant owner. We are also known for our sweet bites, which are also very popular. Again, these are not frozen nuggets. They are breaded with each order. We serve pizzas; grilled, fried or hot meals; and homemade cannoli.

Question: How would you describe the ambiance of the restaurant?

A: (It’s) like a family vacation. We see our clients as family. It is a very relaxed setting.

Question: What type of seats do you offer?

A: Inside. We have a small bar and a dining room with benches and tables.

Question: What types of promotions do you offer?

A: We have weekly specials and daily specials, which you can find on our Facebook page.

Question: Do you offer catering, event space, etc.?

A: We offer a catering service. We can organize small parties on site. Whatever you want, we’ll do it. For catering, contact me, because there is no party (too) big or too small.

Question: Do you offer delivery, take-out or curbside pick-up?

A: We offer on-site catering, pickup and local delivery services to Dunmore, Throop, Olyphant, Peckville, East Scranton, North Scranton, Green Ridge, downtown Scranton, Dickson City and more.

Question: Where do you see the restaurant heading in the future?

A: Every day is different. Fortunately, our business is doing well. We couldn’t be where we are without the support of our customers.
