HBO Max has unveiled a first look at the new Peacemaker series, which serves as Suicide Squad spin off. The show stars John Cena as the titular “superhero”, dressed in his ridiculous costume – which he describes as a uniform. At their virtual event to celebrate their upcoming European launches, HBO Max shared a one-minute clip from the show.
The teaser takes place in a restaurant, where John Economos (Steve Agee), Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and two other managers wait for Christopher “Peacemaker” Smith to introduce himself. When he finally does, he makes a big entrance. The group wastes no time roasting Peacemaker for his extravagant outfit, as well as his choice to name his poultry sidekick Eagly the Eagle.

Peacemaker picks up in a hospital following the events of The suicide squad. James Gunn is directing the series, which will be the DCEU’s first TV show. The plot will establish the origins of Peacemaker, a trigger-happy vigilante who believes in peacemaking at all costs – even if it ironically requires being violent. Christopher Smith’s arrogant and stubborn personality is often played for a laugh, and it’s clear that Peacemaker has a distinctly comical tone.
In an interview with Variety in August, Gunn pointed out that Peacemaker isn’t a clear villain. The show will create a more three-dimensional portrayal of the character, similar to how Disney + Loki painted the god of mischief in a more forgiving light. “[Peacemaker is] not a bad person, he’s just a bad guy. He somehow seems unrecoverable in the movie, ”Gunn said. “But I think there is more to him. We did not have the opportunity to know him [in The Suicide Squad] in the way we get to know some of the other characters. And so that’s what the whole show is about. “
You can look Peacemaker on HBO Max from January 2022.
